Today’s travels brought us from Santa Monica to Needles, CA.

Highlights:
Aztec Hotel, Wig Wam Motel, Original McDonalds, Bottle Tree Forest & several abandoned gas stations.
What would have taken us about 5 hours via interstate without stops, took us the whole day. It has been an adjustment for me to not feel like I needed to be somewhere “right now” or not having designated stops at every turn.  Its only been 2 days but the time with the family has been amazing! Taking the road less traveled with the ones you love doesn’t have to be scary :)

Things I Saw/Experienced:
-The original McDonalds no longer sells food. It is now the site of the Unofficial McDonald’s Museum.  The original concept was like Sonic and they had car hops!  The curator is passionate about MacDonald’s.
-Elmo started creating the Bottle Trees from his dads bottle collection,13 years ago and hasn’t stopped since.  The forest has treasures like old war guns, radiators, typewriters and sewing machines hidden in every corner.
-Most of these little towns have fast food places (Taco Bell, KFC & McDs) but have yet to have their logos updated
-Boost Mobile is a big thing out here and its weird to see em in every town
-Some parts of Route 66 are so unkept that the vibrations made my hands numb
